This Week in SCY High Chemistry

For the week of September 17, 2007

What the heck is chemistry anyway? This week we will answer this question and begin our first project. At the end of the week there will be a quiz over what we learned. Prepare for this quiz by studying your vocabulary and knowing how to read the periodic table.

In class: Required Materials Check (T), Matter and Change, Denisty Activity (T), Penny Density Experiment (Th), Periodic Table Project, using the internet for chemical research, writitng abstracts.

Project: Periodic Table of the Elements Class of 2010 Edition. We will begin our first project, which will be on-going throughout the year. In this project, you will begin by

1. PICK an element you want to learn about.
2. RESEARCH the required information about your element.
   
3. PROPOSE a clever design element tile for an element tile.
4. TYPE a short report contrasting the positive and negative impact your element has for society.
5. PRESENT to the class about what you learned.
